*In Progress* Casey Fork Mitigation Site
Stream & Wetland Restoration
Mitico plans to reconnect and restoring over 3700 linear feet of historic stream channel and establish forested and emergent wetlands within the restored stream’s floodplain.
The proposed mitigation site will restore and protect 3,700 linear feet of perennial stream channel and its associated riparian corridor. Outside of the restored riparian buffer, the site will include 25.8 acres of forested and emergent wetlands and 3.2 acres of upland buffer.
These restored habitats will reduce nutrient pollution and runoff into the Casey Fork Watershed while supporting a diverse community of native plants. The restored stream channel will interact more frequently with its floodplain, providing a host of benefits for wildlife, including species of conservation concern found in the service area. The restored wetland hydrology will help reduce the impact of future flood events on areas downstream along Casey Fork and around Rend Lake.
